The countdown has begun for the final season of Game of Thrones! Your favourite Dragon Queen, the mighty King in the North and the virtually never-ending supply of Whitewalkers are all going to define the next few months as soon as ‘The Great War’ begins on April 14. The excitement among the GoT fans is already at its peak and now a dating app OkCupid wants to cash in on the on-going hype around the final season of Game of Thrones.
OkCupid has announced a Game of Thrones badge to match singles based on their favourite TV show. OkCupid wants to maximise users’ conversations on the app using Game of Thrones badge, which it believes can be ‘the perfect conversation starter.’ Users share a lot of information including their likes, dislikes, food and TV show preferences on OkCupid and at times, information shared by users is vague.
For example, “I like to watch TV shows” is a puzzling statement because it doesn’t communicate any clear, valuable knowledge regarding your likes about any particular TV show or genre which is unlikely to lead to any conversation. But if your interests and tastes are clearly communicated on your profile, it will help you score a like-minded date because how do you initiate your conversation with strangers on dating apps is very important.
The update adds different Game of Thrones badges. For example, House Stark, House Lannister, etc. You can add your favourite badge to your profile. OkCupid will allow you to add these badges to your profile once you respond positively to the question “Do you watch Game of Thrones?”
This is what Melissa Hobley, CMO, OkCupid has to say:
“On OkCupid, we want our users to always connect on more and not just superficial attributes like location and selfies. As a progressive platform, and through user responses to thousands of fun OkCupid questions, we have been able to gather tremendous insight into everything that might be relevant to our users from politics to pop-culture. And what better, and bigger, than GoT as the show has got the most chatter off and on OkCupid globally. This will be a conversation starter like no other and will encourage people to match on their passion for the show, whether it means enjoying a conversation over cocktails or on a stroll trading Game of Thrones theories.”
