WhatsApp web users receive Picture in Picture (PiP) feature: Report

After rolling out Picture in Picture (PiP) to WhatsApp for iOS and Android users, Facebook-owned popular instant messaging app WhatsApp is providing web users with Picture in Picture (PiP) mode, letting them view videos within a chat window without opening third-party web pages or apps, according to WAbetainfo. WhatsApp Picture in Picture (PiP) feature reportedly comes as part of the 0.3.2041 update. In addition to PiP mode, WhatsApp web is said to bring some new improvements and security fixes.

In the previous web version, WhatsApp PiP feature was limited to shared videos. Meaning, WhatsApp web users were allowed to watch videos while chatting with their friends. With the latest update, WhatsApp Web may be expanding the PiP support to videos hosted on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and streamable multimedia platforms, according to the update.

According to the report, WhatsApp web users need to clear their browser cache and re-launch the browser to be able to access the Picture in Picture (PiP) feature. To recall, WhatsApp intially rolled out the PiP feature back in December 2018 for Android. For iOS users, however, WhatsApp PiP feature was accessible since January 2018. WhatsApp has more than 200 million monthly active users in India and it happens to be one of the most popular mobile apps worldwide.

In related news, WhatsApp recently announced that their enterprise-focused WhatsApp Business app has reached the milestone of more than five million active users worldwide. Recently, The New York Times reported that Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg is planning to opt for cross-platform integration by merging WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.
