Amazon announced a slew of hardware on Wednesday night at its now annual fall event in Seattle. Some of it was just crazy – like the vibrating smart ring called the Echo Loop and a pair of smart eyeglasses called the Echo Frames. Some if it was just Amazon playing catch up with counterparts like Apple – like the Echo Buds. The Echo Buds, as the name suggests, are a pair of noise cancelling truly wireless earbuds with Amazon’s Alexa built-in – no prizes for guessing, the Echo Buds are Amazon’s answer to the Apple AirPods.

Echo Buds - specs and features

Each earbud in the Echo Buds packs three microphones and two balanced armature drivers. There are sensors built in that can sense when you take the Echo Buds off and automatically pause whatever it is that you’ve been playing. These also support tap gestures – double tap to activate noise cancellation, tap and hold to access the default voice assistant on your phone and more. Speaking of which, the Echo Buds come with Bose technology for noise reduction. The Echo Buds are IPX4-certified for splash resistance.

Amazon claims up to five hours of battery life on a single charge – with up to 20 hours including the case. Sadly, the Echo Buds charge via micro-USB and not USB Type-C.

Amazon has launched the Echo Buds at a price of $129 (roughly Rs 9,150). They will be available for buying in the US from October 30. Amazon isn’t launching the Echo Buds in India just yet.

For some perspective, the second-generation AirPods start at Rs 14,900 for AirPods with standard charging case, going all the way to Rs 18,900 for AirPods with wireless charging case – the optional wireless charging case will be also sold separately for Rs 7,500. The second-generation AirPods come with a new custom H1 chip for seemingly faster connectivity, improved battery life and hands-free Hey Siri support – over the last-generation.

Of the many products that Amazon announced at its fall hardware event, the ones coming to India include, the Echo Dot with clock, Echo third-generation and the high-end Echo Studio.
