Microsoft has maintained a hush ever since The Verge accessed one of the formers’ leaked emails which hinted at a secret project involving a hand-held foldable surface device.

Codenamed Andromeda, the device got the internet talking and within weeks inquiries about its release date flooded the internet. But a few days later, reports about the project surfaced again. However, this time instead of news of further development, the company had reportedly put the project on hold.

We had mentioned in our earlier report about the uncertainty that lingered around the project and the fact that it could be scrapped anytime during its development. Even a week before the launch if previous instances are to be considered. On July 6, various media agencies reported that there was no app ecosystem that could support the Operating System (OS).

However, in its most recent development, it was reported that the tech-giant was actually sending the models back to the labs to be significantly reworked.

According to Thurott.com, if not for this year the company might only have a window in late 2019. However, it is not confirmed if the product would be shipped considering the gamble Microsoft is playing with it.

With project Andromeda, Microsoft aims at blurring the line that divides a PC and a mobile. The device was revealed with a wraparound screen that fills the gap of the hinges when fully opened.

Prototype designs of the new model suggested the inclusion of a stylus pen enabling the device to be folded over and used as a notebook. Leading agencies reported that Microsoft would be experimenting with ARM processors, however, its choice between Intel and Qualcomm is not clear.

This news comes a few days after Microsoft announced the launch of its most affordable tablet Surface Go. Tagged at $399 dollars, the tablet will take on the major ones already in the market such as the Apple iPad and the Samsung Chromebook Pro.  The tablet will have an 1800x1200 resolution with 217 PPI and a wide-angle screen. In its first, Surface Go will be the first tablet that would be offered with a USB-C port for charging. However, it is unlikely that the tablet would support Thunderbolt 3.
