Microsoft Surface Event 2019 witnesses “hard-to-ignore hardware"

The Microsoft Surface 2019 event is now over. But what still seemingly haunts us is the fact that there was a dual-screen smartphone called the Surface Duo announced at the 1 October extravaganza. USP of this smartphone is a surprising one, as it runs Google Android operating platform. Now, this is a potential indicator that Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system may be dead as a dodo. Apart from the Android-powered Surface Duo (with dual screens), there were also other hardware offerings.  

The Microsoft Surface 2019 Event 

Surface Pro X - Alongside the dual-screen Android-powered Duo smartphone, the Redmond-based company also showcased the Surface Pro X that is seriously thin – at 5.33mm. This tablet is available for pre-ordering currently. This device also doubles up as a 2-in-1 laptop. It is also powered by the in-house Microsoft SQ1 SoC. It comes with Windows 10 pre-installed.  

Surface Neo – The Surface Neo is also a foldable tablet and looks like a huge version of the Surface Phone (listed at the beginning). The Neo is thin as well, and measures just 5.6mm when not folded, and 11.2mm when folded. As of now, more information about this device is yet to surface, but what we know is the fact that the Surface Neo would be available for purchase from next year.  

The Surface Earbuds – In yet another surprise offering, Microsoft showcased the Surface earbuds that are slated to be made available for purchase shortly. These are wireless in-ear earphones and are claimed to offer up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge. These could be paired with both laptops as well as the Surface Duo smartphones.  Pricing of this accessory is yet to surface at this point in time.  

Surface Laptop 3 – Last but not the least is the Surface laptop 3 which come in both 13.5-inches as well as 15-inch touchscreens. These devices are claimed to offer up to 11.5 hours of battery life. However, a major USP of these devices are their light-weight nature at just 2.76 pounds. These are driven by the new AMD Ryzen Surface Edition custom processor. As far as storage is concerned, the Surface Laptop 3 variants offer 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB internal storage.
