Samsung Galaxy Book Flex, Ion launched with QLED display, PowerShare

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion, follow ups to the Galaxy Notebook 9 Pen and Notebook 9, with near bezel-less QLED displays, tenth-generation Intel processors, and wireless PowerShare. While the Galaxy Book Flex is a high-end 2-in-1 with a touchscreen and an S-Pen stylus, the Galaxy Book Ion is a more toned-down affair with a new ergonomically lifting design which seems to have been borrowed from Asus. Samsung is yet to announce pricing but says the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion starting from December in select markets. 

Both the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion will be available in 13 and 15-inch sizes, with resolution maxing out at 1920 x 1080 pixels. The Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion use a QLED panel similar to Samsung’s high-end TVs and boast of a peak brightness of 600 nits in ‘outdoor’ mode. While the Galaxy Book Flex packs tenth generation Ice Lake processors (10nm), the Galaxy Book Ion is powered by tenth generation Comet Lake processors (14nm). Both the laptops will be available with up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB SSD (NVMe). The high-end 15-inch models will have the option of dedicated Nvidia MX250 graphics. 

Both the laptops are backed by a 69.7Wh battery and are certified to offer up to nine hours of real-world battery life thanks to Intel’s Project Athena. Speaking of which, both the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion support Samsung’s wireless PowerShare which means that you can wirelessly charge compatible devices through them. Since these laptops boast of an all-metal body, Samsung had little choice but to use their glass trackpads for this purpose.  

Connectivity options on the Galaxy Book Flex include 2xThunderbolt 3 ports, USB-C, and UFS/MicroSD Combo. The Galaxy Book Ion comes with a single Thunderbolt 3, 2xUSB 3.0, HDMI, and UFS/MicroSD Combo. The Galaxy Book Flex also gets an S-Pen stylus that’s similar to the one inside the Galaxy Note 10. Samsung has packed an accelerometer and gyroscope inside it, so it can support ‘air’ gestures to control a few aspects inside these laptops.
