Samsung’s new Galaxy View 2 is an Android tablet with a massive 17.3-inch screen and a gigantic 12,000mAh battery – some would say it’s not even a tablet but a mini broadcast display (a mobile TV, if you may) that you could use to occasionally Facebook and browse the Internet. Samsung also has a clever workaround to make the Galaxy View 2 stand ideally on a table through a cover case that doubles as a kickstand.

While it’s not as huge as its predecessor Galaxy View (that thing was 18-inch+) the Galaxy View 2 is still a giant among current-generation Android tablets with its 17.3-inch screens – the resolution is just 1080p though. Powering the whole thing is an enormous 12,000mah battery that should hold for long binge-watching sessions.

On the inside, the Samsung Galaxy View 2 has Samsung’s home-grown Exynos 7884 processor paired with 3GB RAM. There’s also a 5MP front camera for video calling and the occasional selfie or two. Software inside is Android Oreo – which is surprising. LTE connectivity is supported. The tablet also gets Dolby Atmos sound.

The Samsung Galaxy View 2 launches in the US on April 26 and will be exclusively sold through AT&T for $740 ($37 per month on a 20-month installment plan) which roughly translates to Rs 52,000.

The Galaxy View 2, as mentioned earlier, could be a mobile TV – which is possibly why it comes bundled with streaming services like DirecTV Now. The Galaxy View 2 also supports AT&T’s NumberSync which can turn the tablet into a speaker phone.

Samsung’s Galaxy View 2 has a dated design with thick bezels on all the sides, but the added case cover is a handy addition that lets you well-position the tablet on a flat surface – once positioned, it could be used to stream content or make voice/video calls on the go. Still, the feasibility of an Android tablet as big as the Galaxy View 2 seems questionable and that Android traditionally has had trouble on tablet form factors is also a big issue even more so since this thing runs the older Oreo software.
