Saregama Carvaan 2.0 - blast from the past with a dash of the present 

The Saregama Carvaan is pure nostalgia. In more ways than one could imagine. Not only does it look the part, it also plays the part with full conviction. The first generation Carvaan might have been too old-school for some – which is fine, since that’s the whole point of it all after all – though, which is probably why Saragama chose to amp it up quite a bit in the next generation. Enter Carvaan 2.0. 

The Carvaan 2.0 looks just like the original. A portable speaker masquerading as a radio. What’s new, you ask? A lot actually. This one can connect to the Internet through WiFi. While you sit back and debate why anyone would want Internet on a gadget that’s supposed to help you take your mind off that sort of stuff in the first place, picture this – Internet connectivity brings access to curated podcasts on the Carvaan 2.0. Something that the original’s in-house presets, and FM/AM radio, couldn’t. 

Whether or not you fancy podcasts is for you to decide. You can choose to buy the original Carvaan and be done with it. But if you choose to get the new one, you’ll be investing into 150+ stations – or podcasts as we call them today – spanning topics from devotional, entertainment, music, health and wellness, kids, sports, news, to lifestyle. Some of the prominent stations accessible on the Carvaan 2.0 include Bhagwad Geeta ka Saar, Sampoorna Sundarkand, Nani Maa ki Nuskhe, Musafir hoon Yaaron, Wordgram, Open Mike (poetry), Bachchon ki Kahaniyan, Bedime stories, Stock Market updates etc. 

Just like the original, the Carvaan 2.0 also offers a collection of over 5,000 pre-loaded evergreen tracks. Internet connectivity adds at least 20,000 more. Moreover, Saregama is also working with content creators to bring more content to the Carvaan 2.0 with an aim to bring the station count to 1,000 within a few months. 

The Carvaan lineup is all about taking you down memory lane, one classic at a time. Times were simpler back then, and Saregama has ensured its Carvaan lineup is as easy to use too. Although there’s a companion app – that is required to setup WiFi initially on the Carvaan 2 – you can choose to continue the rest of your interactions through physical buttons and a rotating dial. Saregama has retained the original layout, only adding a fourth WiFi button next to the existing and all-too-familiar ‘Artistes', ‘Specials', and ‘Geetmala' controls. Also, the company has taken a lot of care to keep the connectivity and content access process simple and intuitive. 

It’s a total blast from the past, the Carvaan. The Carvaan 2.0 only adds a dash of present – and future – for a little more convenience. Not to mention, a healthy dose of verbal communication that you can listen to all day long. Saregama has launched the Carvaan 2.0 in India at a price of Rs 7,990.
