WannaCry Back At Work, Artistically Siphons-Off $1.35 Million From Unknown Person

WannaCry that has earned the dubious distinction of being one of the world’s deadliest malware has now siphoned yet-again $1.35 million, but now as a piece of “The Persistence of Chaos” artwork has been made by artist Guo O Dong in partnership with Deep Instinct. Now, this piece of art went up for auction and the maximum bid it received (now closed) was $1,345,000.   

  To rewind, WannaCry along with 5 other malware were loaded onto a Samsung laptop running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3. This laptop assembly was airgapped to not to allow to connect to the web and thereby prevent the spread of dangerous deadly malware (infections) that are estimated to have caused damages amounting to a total of $ 95 billion.   

 The entire laptop assembly – assembled artistically, to give off a real-world look & feel of cyber-attacks and to apparently inspire businesses (generally people) to take enhanced security measures to prevent private confidential information from falling into wrong hands, was termed “The Persistence of Chaos”.   

 This WannaCry-inspired artwork being sold off for $1.3 million could do well to potentially inspire the buyer to use the platform as a reference to adapt stringent cybersecurity measures. As of now, it is not known who invested on “The Persistence of Chaos”; like stated earlier, it should do well for the buyer to use this to eliminate currently persisting chaos (digital) within his/her digital systems while deploying suitable measures to prevent future attacks as well.  If you would like to take a look at WannaCry and The Persistence of Chaos, click here.
