Technology is increasingly becoming an important platform among the elderly when it comes to fighting isolation and loneliness they face as they grow old. Developed by Intuition Robotics, ElliQ could be the solution to fight the struggle of separation and loneliness among the senior citizens.

ElliQ is a robot that aims to keep the elderly stay happy, engaged and connected. We take a look at what the ElliQ robot is all about.

In a nutshell, ElliQ is nothing but a set of a tablet and a voice-equipped speaker. The speaker supports certain gestures like bobbing its head. Therefore, it sort of makes users feel that it’s engaging in some real conversations.

Some of the basic features of ElliQ are as follows: Video calls and messaging, cognitive stimulation and games, curated music and videos, photo sharing, calendar and reminders, news and weather, daily routine reminders, question and answer, etc.

The tablet features a front-facing camera for video calls. It allows family members to connect with each other. It also provides users with personalised suggestions feature. It can suggest a set of activities specific to the person.

Design-wise, ElliQ setup is divided into four parts: The body, base, screen and charger. The body consists of LEDs and enables for 3D moves. The base comprises of a speaker, microphone array and a magnetic charging dock for the tablet. Then, there’s a screen that fits into the tray and allows for automatic charging.

As far as technical specifications are concerned, ElliQ weighs 3.5kg and measures 8.5 x 5 x 5 inches in dimensions. It consists if Harman speakers and quad microphone arrays and dual cameras. It also features a temperature sensor.

At the time of writing this, ElliQ robot is available for pre-orders. It costs $1499, which includes access to 12-month premium subscription and access.
