It’s been a long time coming, but finally, Xiaomi’s existing Mi TV models are set to get support for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in India. Xiaomi has confirmed that the 55-inch Mi TV 4 Pro, 49-inch, 43-inch and 32-inch Mi TV 4A Pro, and 32-inch Mi TV 4C Pro will get support for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video as part of Android 9 Pie rollout. The update is set to hit all these Mi TVs from Q4, 2019 - which means we can expect all these Mi TVs to get support by the end of this year.

Xiaomi literally took India’s smart TV market by storm when it launched the 55-inch Mi TV 4 in India last year – a 55-inch 4K-ready smart TV that was also very sleek and good looking for Rs 39,999 was hard to imaging at that time. A year later, Xiaomi has built a comprehensive portfolio of smart LED TVs in India ranging from around Rs 13,000 to around 40,000 – there's a little something for everybody.

That said, while Xiaomi’s Mi TVs offer tremendous value for money, the lack of support for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video has been a major bone of contention for many potential buyers.

But things are bound to change now. The 65-inch Mi TV 4X that Xiaomi has launched in India recently is its first smart TV that supports both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video out-of-the-box – which raises hope that all Mi TVs launched in India from now on (running Android 9 Pie software) should be able to run these OTT streaming services. At the time of the Mi TV 4X launch, Xiaomi had confirmed that Netflix and Amazon Prime Video support will be coming to older Mi TVs – but it had not revealed specific models, and/or a timeline of availability.

While the list doesn’t cover every Mi TV sold in India – including Xiaomi’s first Mi TV in India, aka the 55-inch Mi TV 4 – at least it’s a start.

Xiaomi takes great pride in its PatchWall user interface – which is the Android-based software that drives its Mi TVs – especially its large content library. The support for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video is definitely a welcome addition.
