Xiaomi wants to improve your child’s concentration with the Mi Truck Builder. Launched in India on Tuesday via Xiaomi’s crowdfunding platform, the Mi Truck Builder - as the name suggests – is a Lego-like DIY building kit designed for children. Like the Mi sunglasses and Mi Men’s Sports Shoes 2, which were initially launched via the same mode, you can’t readily buy Xiaomi’s Mi Truck Builder from Mi.com or Mi Home stores just yet.   

Crowdfunding is a little different from traditional sales and is meant largely to gauge buyer interest. The future of the product therefore lies in the hands of the buyers. If enough buyers show interest, Xiaomi will go ahead and make the product available. If not, well, it is likely never going to talk about it again. Therefore, there’s a 50-50 chance to whether the product will ever be sold beyond the pre-defined crowdfunding period.  

For now, all we know is that, the Mi Truck Builder will cost Rs 1,199 in India and Xiaomi is likely to start shipping from July 25, should enough buyers show interest. 

As for the product itself, Xiaomi says the Mi Truck Builder gives you a “choice of 530+ parts to connect and dismantle” so “your child is sure to have a great time building the toy.” The Mi Truck Builder is being marketed as a 2-in-1 product which means children will be able to design two different things out of the same product – a truck or a bulldozer. Xiaomi assures the parts are made with safe and durable ABS and PC material.  

Going by how popular Xiaomi products are in India, it won’t be surprising if the company achieves the desired ‘interest’ before time. Something very similar happened with the Mi LED bulb recently.   

Xiaomi had launched the Mi LED smart bulb in India in April under its crowdfunding platform. The Xiaomi Mi LED smart bulb is now available for buying in India at a price of Rs 1,299 - after having successfully amassed the requisite interest.

Xiaomi has been slowly and steadily ramping up its portfolio of ecosystem products in India - it is expected to launch even more new and unique products in India in the days to come.
