As if Xiaomi's Mi NoteBook Air lineup wasn’t enough, its newly independent sub-brand Redmi is also joining the bandwagon of affordable yet feature-packed laptops. Its debut product, called simply the RedmiBook 14, undercuts Apple’s MacBook Air in price – and yet surprisingly, it doesn’t miss out on anything substantial so as to speak. Xiaomi’s RedmiBook 14 is a lot like the MacBook Air at half the price.

The 14-inch RedmiBook packs 8th-Gen Intel Core CPUs and up to 512GB SSD storage inside an all familiar all-metal chassis - that weighs just a little over 1kg. More specifically, the RedmiBook will be available in Core i5 (256GB/512GB) and Core i7 (512GB) configurations with 8GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics.

The RedmiBook will be initially available in China at a starting price of CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs 40,400) for the base version with Intel Core i5 CPU and 256GB SSD, going all the way to CNY 4,999 (roughly Rs 50,400) for the top-end version with Intel Core i7 CPU and 512GB SSD.

The RedmiBook has a 14-inch full-HD screen and up to 10 hours of battery life – there's no fast charging like the Mi NoteBook Air though. Connectivity options include 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB 2.0, HDMI port, and 3.5mm audio jack. There’s also DTS Surround Sound.

The Mi Notebook Air has long been regarded as Xiaomi's take on Apple's MacBook Air - only, it is much more aggressively priced in comparison. Now, even Redmi has joined the pack giving buyers yet another option to pick from – especially in China. Xiaomi is yet to launch any of its laptops in India – the RedmiBook is also exclusive to China and it is yet to be seen if Xiaomi ever brings it to more markets including in India in the days to come.

Speaking of things coming soon, Xiaomi’s Redmi has also launched the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro in China alongside the RedmiBook and both these phones are expected to arrive in India in the days to come.
