Airtel's new Rs 998 and Rs 597 long-validity prepaid recharge plan are now live, and these are seemingly aimed at customers across all telecom circles of the telco. Now, the major difference between these schemes is that the Rs 998 offering is valid for 336 days whereas the Rs 597 plan comes with 168 days validity.

Now, these packs seem to be targeting more of the customers preferring to indulge in voice calling more than use data (and thereby the web). The data offering of both these packs are comparatively low; the Rs 998 prepaid scheme offers just 12GB data, whereas the Rs 597 offering comes with 6GB LTE data.

Both the Airtel prepaid offerings come with unlimited voice calling and free roaming calls, along with 300 text messages per month.

Though seemingly targeted more at those preferring to indulge in voice calling and preferring to stay away from the hassles of monthly recharges especially at a time when monthly recharges have once again become the order of the day to prevent prepaid connections from going into hibernation.

Also, at this juncture, with smartphone shipments being on the rise; it is only instinctive that users of smartphones, who Airtel seems to have targeted through the above plans, would attempt to potentially indulge in checking out more stuff on the web; in addition to making the usual voice calls.

However, the incumbent telco does have a complete 365-day plan which it has seem to have targeted more aptly at smartphone users - this scheme priced at Rs 1699 offers unlimited voice calling along with 1GB LTE-data per day and 100 national text messages for free. Hence, this plan makes for increased relevance than either of the Rs 998 or Rs 597 scheme; as data, today is a foremost link across spectrums and domains.
