If you are a Nokia 8 user, waiting for the Android 9 OS update and having felt that there has been a delay in the seeding of the new firmware, then there is a reason for it. For starters, it is worth reminiscing that the Nokia 8 is a comparatively older mid-range smartphone released by HMD Global-owned Nokia.

Now, as per an official tweet by Juho Sarvikas who is Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, there were apparently issues with VoLTE in India that required a new software to address. This is reportedly said to have resulted in HMD Global consuming relatively more time. Sarvikas, in his official tweet, has also stated that new functionality requested for by Nokia users/loyalists would be incorporated with the Android Pie OS update (for Nokia 8 smartphones). This tweet was in response to a cross-section of apparent Nokia 8 users.

This also means that it should now only be a matter of time before Android Pie firmware is seeded to a wider Nokia 8 user base in India. Hence, Nokia 8 users could check their handsets manually on a regular basis and check for the newer firmware. If you think that this rollout is more wider, do share thoughts/insights.

As far as Android Pie OS update is concerned, the newer firmware introduces newer aspects such as:

  • Digital Wellbeing
  • Adaptive Battery
  • Edge-to-edge screens
  • Ability to put forward over-the-air (OTA) updates
  • HDR support
  • HEIF Photos
  • Notification Enhancements for Messaging
  • Slices
  • Multi-Camera support

To manually check for the newer Android Pie firmware, users of Nokia 8 within their smartphones could navigate to Settings > About Phone > Updates > Check For Updates.

The Nokia 8 features key technical aspects such as:

  • 5.3-inch display having resolutions of 1440 x 2560 pixels
  • Android 7.1.1 out of the box; eligible for Android 9.0 as an OS update
  • Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon  835 SoC
