Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2, ZenFone Max M2 software update brings December Android security patch and more

Asus is rolling out new firmware updates to the recently launched ZenFone Max Pro M2 and ZenFone Max M2 in India. The FOTA updates are being pushed out in phased manner, which means not every device is going to get it at the same time. Both the updates bump up the Android security patch to December 2018 in the ZenFone Max Pro M2 and the ZenFone Max M2 and bring the following improvements to Asus’ new phones:  

ZenFone Max M2: FOTA version 15.2016.1812.145  

--Upgrade Google security patches for December 2018  

--Improve fingerprint registration 

--Optimize camera performance   

--Enable front camera EIS 

 ZenFone Max Pro M2: FOTA version 15.2016.1812.179 

--Upgrade Google security patches for December 2018 

--Optimize camera interface 

--Upgrade touch screen FW 

--Optimize text translation 

--Enhance noise reduction on FM Radio 

Asus has been consistent in bringing software updates to its phones through 2018 and is off to a good start with regards to the same in 2019. Both the ZenFone Max Pro M2 and the ZenFone Max M2 are in line to get the Android 9 Pie update, and so is Asus’ flagship ZenFone 5Z phone.  

The Asus ZenFone 5Z is, in fact, already receiving the Android 9 Pie update in select markets. Users in Taiwan seem to be the first to get their hands on Pie for ZenFone 5Z, and in time, the update should land in other global markets including in India. Asus had previously confirmed that it would start rolling out the Android Pie update for the ZenFone 5Z starting January 2019.  

The ZenFone Max Pro M2 and the ZenFone Max M2 are also expected to get Android Pie sometime in January 2019. As opposed to the ZenFone 5Z, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 and the ZenFone Max M2 run stock Android software -- and not Asus’ in-house ZenUI -- meaning they cuts short on unwanted apps or bloatware and entail in an experience closer to what you’d expect from a Google Pixel phone. The ZenFone Max Pro M2 and the ZenFone Max M2 are not Android One phones though, something like say the Nokia 7.1.
