Asus has launched two new mid-tier phones, the ZenFone Max Shot and ZenFone Max Plus M2, in Brazil. Their main highlight being – the ZenFone Max Shot and ZenFone Max Plus M2 are the world’s first smartphones to pack Qualcomm’s system-in-package (SiP) 1 processor. The Snapdragon SiP 1 has been built in partnership with Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) and is different from conventional system-on-chips or SoCs – all major components lie on a single circuit here which is then outfitted onto the motherboard.

A SiP would allow OEMs to save more internal space – so they can probably be slimmer yet pack bigger batteries. The ZenFone Max Shot and ZenFone Max Plus M2 however don’t set any benchmark in that regard – both come with 4,000mAh batteries and charge via micro-USB. The same is true about their design – both the phones have a familiar design with a metal body and iPhone X-style notch on the front. Both the phones have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.

The ZenFone Max Shot and ZenFone Max Plus M2 in fact are literally the same phones – differing in only the rear camera setup. The ZenFone Max Shot has three rear cameras consisting of one 12MP sensor, one 8MP wide sensor and another 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. The ZenFone Max Plus M2 has two cameras on the rear, dropping the 8MP wide sensor.

On the front, both the phones come with an 8MP camera.

The ZenFone Max Shot and ZenFone Max Plus M2 come with a 6.26-inch 1080p+ display and run Android Oreo software.

While the ZenFone Max Plus M2 will come with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, the ZenFone Max Shot will be available in 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB storage configurations.

While the ZenFone Max Plus M2 has been launched at BRL 1,299 (roughly Rs 23,500), the ZenFone Max Shot starts at BRL 1,349 (roughly Rs 23,500). Both the phones will be available in as many as four colour options including silver, black, blue and red.
