Xiaomi backed Black Shark is gearing to launch its third gaming phone – the Black Shark 2 in China on March 18. The company already has the Black Shark and Black Shark Helo gaming phones to its name – but both are China-exclusives. The Black Shark 2 will pack updated hardware (and possibly also a new design) and could be the first Black Shark gaming phone to launch in India.

The Black Shark 2 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor paired with up to 12GB RAM. It will pack a new cooling system – Liquid Cool 3.0 for seemingly longer gaming sessions, as well as faster 27W charging to top the juice. The original Black Shark and Black Shark Helo came with 4,000mAh batteries with 18W fast charging.

Rest of the specifications, including design and display size are a closely guarded secret for now.

The Black Shark and Black Shark Helo looked the part – you could tell they were gaming phones from afar. Black Shark had also put in RGB lighting to further accentuate their gaming credentials. Also, the company updated the display panel from LCD to AMOLED from the original going into the Helo model – both the phones’ displays lacked a 120Hz refresh rate like the Razer phone though (they maxed out at 60Hz). Whether or not Black Shark changes that in the Black Shark 2 is something only time will tell – a 120Hz display would mean buttery smooth experience across the board right from gaming to day-to-day tasks.

Stereo speakers should stay put in the Black Shark 2 as well – like the Black Shark and Black Shark Helo.

Black Shark is also known for accessories like the gamepad that bring dedicated controls so gamers can have more screen for visuals – whether Black Shark introduces new accessories with the Black Shark 2 is also something that time will only tell.

The Black Shark Helo (which is the most recent Black Shark phone) was launched starting at CNY 3,199 which roughly translates to Rs 33,227 – clearly, more affordable than rival gaming phones like the Razer phone and the Asus ROG phone. Something similar is expected from the Black Shark 2 as well.

While Black Shark hasn’t confirmed that it will launch the Black Shark 2 in India anytime soon, the company has already entered India – it has started setting up offices and operations will commence soon hopefully. So, there is a slight chance, the Black Shark 2 could be its debut product in India – so, fingers crossed there.
