Xiaomi backed Black Shark is making its India debut on May 27. Black Shark, that specializes in making gaming smartphones and accessories, will launch the Black Shark 2 in India on May 27 – at a standalone keynote event scheduled to take place in the National Capital. Ahead of launch, online retail website Flipkart has confirmed that it will sell the Black Shark 2 gaming phone in India – whether it will be an exclusive partner or whether the Black Shark 2 will also be sold via other channels is something only time will tell.

The Black Shark 2 will notably be the second dedicated gaming smartphone to launch in India after the Asus ROG phone. But while the Asus ROG carries with it a premium price, the Black Shark 2 will be a relatively more affordable offering – like all things Xiaomi.

The Black Shark 2 sells in China at a starting price of CNY 3,200 (roughly Rs 33,000) for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage going all the way to CNY 4,200 (roughly Rs 43,000).

But, that’s not to say that it compromises on specs. The Black Shark 2 comes with a 6.39-inch 1080p+ AMOLED display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The software inside is Joy UI – which is different from Xiaomi’s MIUI and is closer to stock Android. The phone further packs a sizeable 4,000mAh battery and supports 27W fast charging via USB Type-C.

The Black Shark 2 comes with dual rear cameras consisting of one 48MP Samsung GM1 sensor and another 12MP telephoto sensor for 2X optical zoom. On the front, the Black Shark 2 comes with a 20MP camera.

Coming to the gaming-centric features - the Black Shark 2’s OLED screen has an input latency of 43.5ms and it is also pressure sensitive so gamers will be able to assign virtual buttons on the it and trigger them by pressing hard(er) - Black Shark calls it Magic Press. This OLED screen is also home to an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The Black Shark 2 uses Liquid Cool 3.0 for seemingly longer gaming sessions. Black Shark says this cooling system can keep temperatures 14 degrees lower over the previous generation.

Software enhancements include a new Ludicrous mode capable of optimizing performance – so everything runs faster and cool as a cucumber.Lastly, the Black Shark 2 also gets dual front-firing speakers.

Black Shark also sells gaming accessories to go along with the Black Shark 2 – like a game pad and cooling case. Black Shark is expected to bring these accessories to India as well.
