Google Android Q Developer Preview Beta: Check Out How You Could Manually Downgrade To Android Pie, After Testing Newer OS Variant

Steps to potentially revert to Android P, from Android Q, in a Google Pixel smartphone.

Written By Tech Desk | Mumbai | Updated On:

Android Q which is Google’s next Android iteration recently started rolling out to registered testers possessing smartphones such as the Pixel XL, Pixel and a whole lot of other phones, would naturally have found itself within these smartphones. Now, if you have finished testing out (and sending reports about Android Q Developer Preview), or simply are not satisfied with the Android Q experience (by virtue of bugs, and possibly other factors), then it is only worth downgrading to the current-gen Android 9.0 (Pie) operating platform.

With downgrading, from Android Q Developer Preview beta to Android P, being the criteria, check out the steps below using which you could potentially transition to the current-gen Android firmware:

  • Step 1: backup all your work - information manually even if it takes substantial effort from your side
  • Step 2: Navigate to the official Android beta page and key in your developer ID which you have used to test out Android Q
  • Step 3: Check to see if your device is eligible for Android P. Then, choose to Opt-out from the beta.
  • Step 4: After Step 3, you should receive an update representing Android P within the next 24 hours. Upon installing this update, your phones should revert to Android P - from Android Q beta. Whilst this is in progress your phones would likely lose all stored data. Here is where your backups would come in handy.
