Leaks haven’t been kind to the last few Pixel phones. So, Google has decided, enough is enough. Google is dropping the fourth-generation Pixel early, so leaks wouldn’t get the better of it. Even though there’s still nearly four months before the Pixel 4 starts shipping, Google just jumped the gun and revealed, what could be its biggest headlining feature.

Google has shared an official render of the Pixel 4, not only confirming the name of the phone in question, but also confirming it will come with dual rear cameras – a first for any Google Pixel phone. Google has been able to pull off some too good to be true photography chops with one camera on its Pixel phones for years now, at a time when rival brands have started adopting more and more versatility – meaning more cameras. Also, rival brands have been raising the megapixel bar as well, while Google has been content using 12MP resolution cameras. So far.

While dual cameras are surely a big step-up, it would be interesting to see if Google also chooses to up the megapixel count in its cameras this year. It would also be interesting to see what kind of lenses it has to offer in the Pixel 4 – normal and wide-angle, normal and depth, or normal and telephoto. Google isn’t revealing any key specs just yet, all it is saying is that you’ll have to wait to see what it can do,

Coming to the design, that’s another area where Google seems to be making some big changes. The base form factor seems same as the outgoing Pixel 3, but the camera module is getting a huge squarish bump – it’s pretty similar to what we’ve seen in the new iPhone leaked renders. But while the iPhone is said to pack three cameras sort of justifying the odd design choice, the Pixel 4 has just two – and a couple of sensors that when put into their totality, seem weird to look at.

Elsewhere, the Pixel 4 retains the Google logo at the bottom, and a power button that’s of a different colour – again, hallmark Pixel.

That’s all that there is to talk about for now, but hopefully Google will have more to share soon – or else, rest assured, leaks will always be there to spoil its party.
