After leaking the white colour variant of the upcoming Google Pixel 3a phone, serial tipster Evan Blass has managed to get his hands on its purple colour variant – or is it not purple? The render shared by Blass shows off a very subtle hue of purple (with a yellow power button) and going by Google’s casual naming conventions, this variant could well be called not purple.

Whatever be the case, the fresh leak gives another first-look at Google’s upcoming Pixel 3a and even though it does not show off anything new, it does highlight the fact that Google could be looking to liven up the mid-range segment with colours only it could imagine.

As has been the case with all Pixel phones, the purple variant of the alleged Pixel 3a is also seen rocking a distinctly unique power button – in this case it is yellow. This particular leak shows the phone only from the back, but the previous render shared by Blass seemed to suggest a lack of front-firing dual stereo speaker setup in the Pixel 3a – the Pixel 3 rocks a stereo pair.

Rest of the design is in line with the Pixel 3 (although, the Pixel 3a is said to be built entirely out of plastic which automatically entails in no wireless charging). There is the Pixel’s dual tone back, and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner – it is yet to be seen if it retains Google’s squeezable edge sense technology. A bigger Pixel 3a XL is also expected which would likely have a similar design.

Google has hinted that it will formally announce the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL phones at I/O 2019 on May 7. The Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are supposed to a be mid-cycle refresh of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL – their main USP is said to be the fact that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will be mid-range phones designed to be much more affordable than the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. And yet, they will likely retain the Pixel 2-series class-leading cameras.
