Google is gearing for its big Pixel hardware reveal on May 7 (May 8 IST) - the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL mid-rangers are expected to break cover. Ahead of D-day, alleged promo materials of the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL have leaked online, alongside a bevy of information about possible specs and features. Even though the new leak doesn’t reveal a lot that we already do not know, this is the first time we’re getting to see a full picture of sorts – it's safe to say that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL may be mid-range devices, but they’ll pack some real key aspects of Google’s more premiere Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones.
Let’s start with the design. We’ve already seen renders of the white and blue/purple variants of the Pixel 3a but looks like there will also be a black variant tagging along for a total of three options, at least. Off these, the white and blue/purple variants will have ‘funky’ power buttons (orange in the case of the white, and yellow in the case of the blue/purple), while the black will have a more generic black power button. The design seems reminiscent of the Pixel 3, although the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are expected to be all-plastic to cut cost. They’re said to retain the Pixel 3’s squeezable Active Edge feature though.
All that plastic should mean no wireless charging, but the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are said to support fast charging.
Speaking of specs, the Pixel 3a will reportedly come with a 5.6-inch display, a 12.2MP Dual Pixel rear and an 8MP front camera, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, and a 3,000mAh battery. The Pixel 3a XL is said to come with a larger 6-inch display and a bigger 3,700mAh battery – rest of the specs are said to be the same as the Pixel 3a. Being Pixel phones invariably means three years of software support directly from Google – the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are said to come with Android Pie software.
Flipkart has been teasing the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL India launch, especially highlighting their cameras – which are said to be in line with what you get in the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. The use of the line ‘losing sight after twilight’ suggests the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will come with Google’s Night Sight feature – for enhanced low-light photography. The promo materials corroborate this.
Because the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are expected to be mid-range phones, a hallmark Google Pixel camera could give them just the right amount of ammo to make them solid contenders in the market – even more so than the Pixel 3. According to a report, that cites an alleged retail packaging of the Pixel 3a, the phone will cost roughly $399 (roughly Rs 27,750) - the Pixel 3a XL is said to cost $479 (roughly Rs 33,300).
