If you have a Xiaomi Redmi/Mi smartphone running the MIUI Stable ROM, and looking at developer options, then it is now seemingly easy to update to the MIUI 10 Developer ROM without having to unlock the bootloader. To resort to this, you need not possess a modern Xiaomi smartphone, even some older ones are eligible for the process.

Upgrading to MIUI 10 Developer ROM, from MIUI Stable ROM

Eligibility Criteria

  • Before you start off with the upgradation process, you should backup all your stored data (within the above smartphones), as the process would erase all information that is not backed up
  • Ensure that the battery level within your smartphones is at least 60%; then download the Recovery ROM for your respective eligible smartphone from here.

The actual process

  • Navigate to Settings > About Phone > System Update.
  • Then, select  Update Package, and choose the respective ROM you obtained above
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to get to MIUI 10
  • Verify if you have got the MIUI 10 Developer ROM.
