Honor 8A with waterdrop-style notch leaked ahead of January 8 launch

Huawei sub-brand Honor is gearing to launch the budget-centric Honor 8A in China on January 8. The Honor 8A, which will be successor to the Honor 7A, has leaked online ahead of launch leaving nothing to the imagination in terms of design and look. 

The Honor 8A, as per new renders that have surfaced online, will come with a waterdrop-style notch on the front, making it one of the most affordable phones in the market to ship with such a setup. The Honor 7A that it would ideally replace was launched in India at under Rs 10,000. The Honor 7A, is in fact, the most affordable Honor phones that you can buy in the Indian market right now. The Honor 8A may follow suit. 

Moving on, the design of the Honor 8A, as per the renders, seems a refresh in that it is seen rocking a glossy back – in blue and black – although underneath it should be all plastic much like the Honor 7A. The Honor 8A is seen carrying a single camera on the rear, basis of the renders, which is a big change over the Honor 7A which came with dual rear cameras.  

Rumoured specs of the Honor 8A include: a 6.09-inch 720p+ display, a MediaTek Helio P35 processor with 3GB RAM and up to 64GB storage, EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie, and a 3,050mAh battery under the hood. In terms of optics, the Honor 8A is said to come with a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera.  

The Honor 7A, in contrast comes with a 5.7-inch 720+ IPS LCD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 and a 3,000mAh battery. On the optics front, the Honor 7A comes with a dual rear camera setup consisting of one 13-megapixel camera and another 2-megapixel camera for depth sensing. On the front, the Honor 7A has an 8-megapixel camera. 

In other news, Honor is gearing to launch the Honor View 20 in India by the end of January. The Honor View 20 is Honor’s top-tier device of 2019 that ships with a punch-hole selfie camera design for more screen real estate. Honor is also reportedly gearing to launch the more affordable Honor 10 Lite in India soon.
