Huawei Is Now Rolling Out Android Pie Update For 7 Devices Including P20, P20 Pro And Honor 10

Huawei has announced that it is now rolling out the stable Android 9 Pie update for as many as seven of its devices including the P20, the P20 Pro, the Mate 10, the Mate 10 Pro, the Honor Play, the Honor View 10 and the Honor 10. All these devices were already part of Huawei’s Android Pie beta update cycle, and as expected, are now receiving the stable update globally. Because it’s a global release, it should be made available to users in India simultaneously.

As such OTA updates work, not every phone in the list will receive the update at the same time, which means in case you own one of these phones and haven’t received the new update, you will soon enough. You can manually check for the update by heading over to your phone’s settings menu just in case.

Huawei and Honor phones run Android-based EMUI software. The new update should bump the EMUI version to EMUI 9, the same software that drives Huawei and Honor’s recently launched phones like Mate 20 Pro and the Honor Magic 2. The Mate 20 Pro and the Honor Magic 2 were in fact the first Huawei and Honor phones to ship with Android 9 Pie-based EMUI 9 out-of-the-box. It was only about time Huawei and Honor rolled out the said update for its other devices, at least those launched recently and those that were part of their beta testing.

The Android Pie-based EMUI 9 update brings a host of new features to the P20, the P20 Pro, the Mate 10, the Mate 10 Pro, the Honor Play, the Honor View 10 and the Honor 10. If you’ve crossed paths with the Mate 20 Pro, or were part of Huawei’s beta program, you’d know EMUI 9 is a comprehensive update to EMUI 8 in almost all the departments.

Focus lies largely on one-handed or gesture-based navigation making life with large-screen phones seemingly more bearable. This essentially means almost all your day-to-day smartphone usage will be able to be controlled via swipes instead of reaching out to dedicated toggles. There’s focus on digital well-being as well, and new and improved ways to manage RAM, battery and screen brightness.

EMUI 9, being a third-party skin, of course brings extra nuggets on top of Android. Some of these include HiVision visual search and HiTouch. While HiVision is similar to Google Lens, HiTouch lets you search for items across shopping portals, much like a certain Samsung Mall. The new update also bumps up GPU Turbo tech to version 2.0, and also adds a dedicated PC mode to Huawei and Honor phones that would let users mimic their smartphone screens on a monitor.
