Huawei’s Mate X foldable has apparently entered mass production and should arrive in the market this month, according to a new report coming from China. The much-delayed Huawei Mate X was supposed to land in October, after having missed its initial target of making it way to the market by the middle of the year – in the aftermath of the US trade clampdown. So, it seems like Huawei is going to stick to its latest shipping and availability timeline. The Huawei Mate X was launched in Europe for Euros 2,299 (roughly Rs 1,85,000). It would be interesting to see if there’s some sort of price revision on the cards, or if Huawei would relaunch it as is.

Huawei had previously confirmed that it will launch the Mate X foldable phone in India in the second half of this year – it would be interesting to see if that plan stays put.

“India is an important market for us and we have been consistently investing and expanding our footprint in the market. We are focused on delivering the user experiences that defines the future of smartphone in the smart era,” Wally Yang, senior product marketing director, Huawei Consumer Business Group had said in March, confirming the “Mate X will make its India debut this year.”

Huawei Mate X specs and features

The Mate X was launched at MWC 2019 and belongs to the first wave of next-generation foldable devices. It’s Huawei’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Fold which is already available for buying in India.

The Mate X’s OLED display folds outwards giving users access to three screen sizes – two independent smartphone-like screens with 6.6-inch and 6.38-inch sizes respectively, and an 8-inch tablet form factor. Huawei calls it a falcon wing design. In terms of core hardware, the Mate X packs Huawei’s Kirin 980 flagship processor with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage, it comes with a total of three Leica-tuned cameras, dual-SIM, and it packs two batteries which entail in a total battery capacity of 4,500mAh with 55W Super Charging which is claimed to offer 85 per cent charge in mere 30 minutes. The Mate X is also 5G-ready courtesy Huawei’s Balong 5000 modem.
