Huawei Nova 5 series breaks cover with gradient design and quad rear cameras

Huawei may be in a tight spot lately but that hasn’t stopped it from launching proper flagships as well as lower tier devices, quite frequently now. The company just announced the Nova 5 series in China – there are three phones in all in the series, the higher-end Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro and the mid-range Nova 5i. The Nova 5 and Nova 5 Pro share many hardware specs while the Nova 5i tries to offer comparable features at relatively more affordable prices.  

Let’s start with the Nova 5 Pro, which is the most premium of the lot. The Nova 5 Pro has a 6.39-inch 1080p+ OLED display with a waterdrop-style notch. The phone is powered by Huawei’s top-of-the-line Kirin 980 processor paired with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage which is also expandable. The dual SIM phone runs Android Pie based EMUI 9 and packs a 3,500mAh battery with 40W fast charging.  

The Nova 5 Pro comes with four rear cameras - a 48MP main Sony IMX586 sensor, a 16MP super wide-angle sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. On the front, the Nova 5 Pro has a 32MP camera. 

The Nova 5 Pro will be available in Bright Black, Midsummer Purple, Coral Orange, and Forest Green colours. 

The Nova 5 is basically the Nova 5 Pro with Huawei’s newly launched Kirin 810 processor – also it maxes out at 128GB storage. The Nova 5 will be available in Bright Black, Midsummer Purple, and Forest Green colours. 

Coming to the Nova 5i, it comes with a 6.4-inch 108op+ IPS LCD display with punch hole – that houses a 24MP selfie camera. The phone is powered by the Kirin 710 processor paired with up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. There’s a 4,000mAh battery under the hood and four rear cameras - a 24MP main sensor, an 8MP wide-angle sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. The Nova 5i will be available in Magic Night Black, Honey Red, and Blue colours. 

The Nova 5 Pro starts at CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs 30,350) for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage going all the way to CNY 3,799 (roughly Rs 38,500) for the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Nova 5 has been launched at CNY 2,799 (roughly Rs 28,300) for the variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The Nova 5i meanwhile starts at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs 20,200) for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage going all the way to CNY 2,199 (roughly Rs 22,300) for the top-end variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.
