Huawei will launch its new P30-series at a standalone keynote event in Paris on March 26. The term series, as well as Huawei’s track record with these things, seemingly confirm multiple products. We’ve started hearing rumors about the P30 and P30 Pro, so that’s one possibility. Whether or not Huawei will also have a P30 Lite to show, is something only time will tell.

What we do know now is that the P30-series will come with interesting cameras. Not that, that’s surprising. Huawei has been hitting all the right notes when it comes to cameras on-board its high-end flagship devices with phones like the Mate 20 Pro setting new benchmarks when it comes to all-round camera capabilities. The P30-series will add one more capability to this list – lossless optical zoom.

The P20 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro both come with telephoto cameras, but Huawei seems to have something special planned for the P30-series. Rumor mills suggest Huawei is secretly working on a new periscope-style rear camera setup for enhanced zoom. While it is advisable to take this piece of information with a pinch of salt, Huawei’s teaser does hint at fancier zooming capabilities. In fact, the company is going so far as to claim that the P30 cameras will “rewrite the rules” of mobile photography.

Hopefully, Huawei will drop more Easter eggs closer to D-day.

The P30 launch confirmation confirms one more thing, that Huawei isn’t launching any new high-end phone at MWC 2019. Instead, the company will focus all its efforts on its first foldable phone, showing it off at the annual trade show and possibly revealing a timeline of official launch. Being a foldable phone of course means, the upcoming Huawei phone will be expensive (more expensive than its P and Mate series phones) and it will have limited availability.

Huawei isn’t the only company set to launch a foldable phone this year. And certainly not the first. Samsung will show off a fully-functional foldable Galaxy phone at its Unpacked 2019 event on February 20.
