Huawei is ringing in the new year 2019 in India with a new affordable smartphone called the Huawei Y9 2019. The company is now sending out invites to the media for a launch event scheduled for January 7 in the National Capital where it will launch the Huawei Y9 2019 for the Indian market. The Huawei Y9 2019 is already available in markets like Malaysia where it sells for around Rs 15,000. We believe Huawei will sell the Huawei Y9 2019 in India at a more or less similar price point.
Online retail website Amazon India has already started teasing the Huawei Y9 2019 with a dedicated notify-me page, suggesting it will be exclusively selling the device post launch. Amazon India, on its teaser page, says that the Huawei Y9 2019 will be a “powerful smartphone at an affordable price.” Should Huawei launch the Huawei Y9 2019 in India at around Rs 15,000, it will compete with phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, the Nokia 7.1 and the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 among others.
The Huawei Y9 2019 comes with Huawei and Honor’s signature gradient colour design with an iPhone X-style notch on the front, although being a budget device also means that it rocks a plastic body (with a glossy finish). It comes with a 6.5-inch 1080p+ display and Huawei’s in-house Kirin 710 processor under the hood. It comes with up to 6GB RAM and up to 128GB storage. The phone is further backed by a sizeable 4,000mAh battery and it charges via standard micro-USB.
On the software front, the Huawei Y9 2019 runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI and packs marquee Huawei features like GPU Turbo technology for enhanced gaming experiences.
On the camera front, the Huawei Y9 2019 has a dual camera setup on the rear consisting of one 16MP senor and another 2MP sensor for depth-sensing or portrait photography. The Huawei Y9 2019 also packs two cameras on the front: a 13MP and another 2MP sensor with features like 3D portrait lighting. Both the rear and front cameras also pack lots of AI or artificial intelligence.
