Huawei will launch its first pop-up selfie camera-toting phone, aka Huawei Y9 Prime 2019, in India on August 1. Huawei is expected to launch the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 in India at a price below Rs 20,000, making it a Realme X competitor. Huawei has confirmed the launch through a dedicated landing page on Amazon India also confirming its sales partner for the phone in question.

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 seems to be a rehashed Huawei P Smart Z for the Indian market with special emphasis on design and cameras.

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 continues Huawei’s signature gradient finish design although the company is using a unique dual tone scheme on this one – the phone will be available in Emerald Green and Sapphire Blue options. There’s a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication and USB Type-C for charging and data syncing.

In terms of core specs, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 will come with a 6.59-inch (likely LCD) display with a 1080p+ resolution. The phone will be powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 710 processor paired with 4GB RAM and 1284GB storage which will be also expandable. The dual-SIM phone will run Android Pie-based EMUI 9 and pack a 4,000mAh battery under the hood.

On to the optics, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 will come with triple rear cameras wherein one sensor will be ultra-wide angle – for some perspective, the P Smart Z comes with dual rear cameras with one 16MP sensor and another 2MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 triple camera setup AI is claimed to identify 22 categories and 500+ scenes in real-time.

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 will further come with a 16MP pop-up selfie camera - similar to the Huawei P Smart Z. The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 front camera will support AI features like 3D porttrait. Huawei claims the P Smart Z’s pop-up selfie mechanism has been designed to last 100,000 cycles and can handle 12kg force – something similar will be expected from the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 as well.
