LG is gearing to join India’s burgeoning affordable smartphone market bandwagon with its upcoming W-series. The W-series, that seems to be LG’s answer to Xiaomi’s Redmi and Samsung’s Galaxy M phones, will launch in India this month with Amazon India as sales partner. The e-retail website has already started teasing LG’s debut W-series phone through a dedicated landing page – also, revealing some key aspects of the phone in question.

LG’s first W-series phone will have a gradient design, and it will be available in three colours – green, blue and black. The phone will have three cameras on the back, one of which will use a wide-angle lens. Should this wide-angle camera be anywhere close to LG’s more premiere phones, it could be the best in the business at its low price point. LG is one of the few companies that has been able to crack the issue of fish-eye distortion that amounts from such a lens setup – after having set the trend of wide-angle cameras in smartphones in the first place. LG is also touting night and portrait mode aspects of its upcoming W-series phones, without going too much into the paper specs at this point of time.

LG’s first W-series phone will have a selfie camera seated in the middle up-top right below the earpiece – in technical terms, it will come with a waterdrop-style notch. LG will further be offering software tweaks, so users will be able to simulate a range of waterdrop-style notch designs on the phone – U-shaped, V-shaped, or no notch at all.

This is not the first time that LG is working on an affordable line-up of smartphones. The company already has a Q-series that serves that purpose – it would be interesting to see if LG is letting go of that and starting afresh with the W-series. We will surely know soon enough.

Rumor has it that LG’s debut W-series phone will be called the LG W10 and it will be powered by a 12nm processor (either a Helio P70 or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439) with the base model packing 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The phone will reportedly come with a sizeable 4,000mAh battery and will have a starting price of Rs 9,999.
