Will the OnePlus have a new Chinese competitor?

Meizu is now seemingly entering India with 3 smartphones and more; these handsets are also sis to be budget premium ones to compete with the likes of fellow Chinese brands viz OnePlus and Xiaomi. The launch of these handsets could even take place as early as in December 2018.

As per a rumour mills, Meizu is speculated to introduce a handset said to have a codename of M16-TH. This is said to be a premium device competing with the recent OnePlus 6T. Also, Meizu is rumoured to be having at least two other budget smartphones to stack up against Xiaomi; thereby potentially making this an all-Chinese battle encompassing even the value-for-money segment in India.

At this point in time, it is worth noting that the Indian smartphone segment has heavily been disrupted by multiple Chinese brands all of which have been relatively new entrants but still staying on top of buyers’ minds in all categories viz budget, mid-range, as well as high-end. Both Xiaomi and OnePlus have now completed four years in India and dominating sales; surpassing the likes of even Samsung and Apple in certain areas.

As far as Meizu is concerned, its last smartphone launch was the Meizu Pro 7 that featured dual rear cameras and offered fast charging functionality. USP of this device was its dual-displays.

Now, multiple technical specifications of the purported Meizu M16-TH hav also surfaced; as per these, the handset features:

  • 6-inch full HD display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC
  • 20 MP +12 MP rear cameras
  • 20MP front snapper
  • 3010 mAh battery.

These Technical specifications are nothing to go by, but still throw hints at the speculated Meizu M16-TH being a premium mid-range; by virtue of its dual rear cameras and 20MP front camera. These, on paper, should offer comparatively enhanced multimedia experience in tandem with the 6-inch screen.

Nonetheless, it would be desirable for consumer technology enthusiasts to brace up for more “Chinese exchange” in the country.
