Lenovo-owned Motorola Mobility has announced the official Android 9 Pie update rollout for the Moto Z3. The Moto Z3, which is the most premium among two Moto Z devices launched in 2018, is now receiving the Android Pie update. Motorola has shared the complete change-log as well as steps that you can take to manually install the update on its official website.

As expected, the update brings a slew of features to the Moto Z3. Considering that Pie is a major software release – and not just an incremental upgrade – it brings visible changes to the phone in question with regards to the operating system. Including an all-new gesture-based navigation system.

“Android 9.0 Pie improves your mobile experience from the new intuitive navigation and recent app, an improved do not disturb mode and a colourful settings menu, to anticipated longer battery life and revamped split screen,” Motorola notes in the change-log.

The update brings improved RAM and adaptive battery management, as well as adaptive display that can automatically tweak screen settings depending on available light, in turn also aiding in saving battery life. The update also bumps the Android security patch to January 2019 among other things. You can read the complete change-log here.

The Android Pie update also brings future-proofing to the Moto Z3 with regards to connectivity. The new update brings 5G Moto Mod support to the Moto Z3, making it one of the first few phones to support it. That said, the 5G Moto Mod isn’t available for buying yet and it is exclusive to the Verizon network which means limited availability at least to begin with.

Motorola is also rolling out the Android Pie update for the Moto G6 Plus, weeks after it rolled out the update for its Android One-backed Moto One Power phone (in India). The Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play, which are more affordable versions of the Moto G6 Plus, are also in line to get the Android Pie update although Motorola is yet to announce an exact time-frame for the same.
