With smartphones with foldable displays seemingly being the in-thing at this point in time and with a host of phones with next-gen foldable designs surfacing at the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC 2019), Motorola may also have joined this bandwagon quietly. This could lead to newer foldable premium smartphones from the brand in the near future.

Now as per an Engadget report, that quotes Dan Dery who is Motorola’s Vice President for Global Products, the company has reportedly begun working on foldable phones and these handsets could also come to the fore relatively early. Hence, Motorola loyalists could have lots to cheer about in the very first half of 2019.

As far as the designing of the new Motorola foldable smartphone is concerned, Dery states that folks at Motorola have even been carrying out tests with a plastic OLED with top end consisting of a plastic film-like element.

At this juncture, with smartphones featuring foldable displays being the focal point, 2019 witnessed a plethora of handsets offering foldable screen. Predominant among these brands include the likes of Samsung, and Huawei - whose devices would be actual devices with commercial availability rather than just being restricted to a prototype.

Huawei introduced the Mate X that would begin commercial operations in Europe first. This handset has a price tag of 2299 Euros (Rs 1,86,000 approximately). Key technical specifications of this smartphone includes:

  • Android 9.0 (Pie) operating system
  • Octa-core processor
  • 8-inch main display having resolutions of 2200 x 2480 pixels, and 6.6-inch secondary AMOLED display with 1148 x 480 pixels
  • Four main cameras
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 512 GB internal storage
  • LTE, HSPA, Bluetooth 5.0, USB 3.1 connectivity
  • 4500 mAH fixed Lithium-Ion battery.

As far as Samsung is concerned, the South Korean smartphones giant launched the Galaxy Fold foldable display smartphones that comes with 6 cameras placed in a way such that despite being folded, the phone still offers a camera for users eliminating the need to open up the handset every time to use a camera.
