Back in January, a WSJ report said that Lenovo owned Motorola Mobility will launch a foldable Razr phone in February – while that did not happen, the company did come up and confirm that such a product is indeed in the making. The 2019 Moto Razr will be a foldable phone but it won’t be as drastic a foldable phone like the Samsung Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X – in fact, a patent filing seems to suggest it will look a lot like the original Moto Razr, which means that it will also be a flip phone. Only, the new Razr will have a screen (possibly OLED) on the inside that will simply pass through the hinge.

Folks over at XDA Developers have managed to unearth a few key specs of the 2019 Moto Razr suggesting it could be a mid-range phone – and not a top-tier flagship like the Samsung Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X. This would also explain its purported lower pricing - the updated Moto Razr will be exclusive to Verizon which means that it will be exclusively available in the US (at least, initially) and it will start at around $1,500 which is still in the affordable ball-park when you consider the Samsung Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X.

But coming to the reported specs, the foldable Razr phone (codename Voyager) will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor and will be available in two configurations – 4GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/128GB storage. The main display will be 6.2-inch and will have 876×2142-pixel resolution. The secondary display (the one on the outside which is also said to have limited functionality) will have a resolution of 600x800 although its exact size isn’t known yet. A slight concern is the battery capacity – the foldable Razr phone is said to pack 2,730mAh battery but this is also a small phone (smaller than the Samsung Galaxy Fold or the Huawei Mate X).

The foldable Razr phone is said to come in three colours: white, black and gold.

Further details including possible release date are still awaited. This won’t be the first time that Lenovo/Motorola will be looking at the Moto Razr to build up (fresh) hype. Remember the Droid Razr? But while the Droid Razr was just another smartphone with the name Razr slapped on to it, the 2019 Moto Razr could well be the heir apparent.
