HMD Global has been quick and consistent in rolling out software updates across its entire portfolio of Android One-backed Nokia devices. This has, in fact, been a key highlight of all new-age Nokia phones making them tremendous value for money for Android purists. As many as eight Nokia devices have already received the Android Pie update, and now, HMD has chalked out the roadmap for its other devices. These include, Nokia 5, Nokia 3.1 Plus, Nokia 6, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1. Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3 and Nokia 1.
The Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.1 Plus will start receiving the Android Pie update this week while the Nokia 6, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1 will get it by the end of March. The Nokia 3 and Nokia 1 will receive the Android Pie update in early Q2 2019, HMD has announced.
“We target to cater Pie for Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.1 Plus till this week. Nokia 6 shortly after as soon as we have the Dolby implementation complete,” Juho Sarvikas who is chief product officer, HMD Global, wrote on Twitter.
“We were the fastest in deploying Android Oreo 8.0 and 8.1 portfolio wide, with Android Pie we are committed to be even faster.”
The Nokia 8 Sirocco was the latest Nokia device to receive the Android 9 Pie update. Being an Android One device means that the Nokia 8 Sirocco also received the Pixel-exclusive App Actions and Digital Wellbeing features of Android 9 Pie, in addition to all the usual stuff. The same will be true about the Nokia 5, Nokia 3.1 Plus, Nokia 6, Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1. Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3 and Nokia 1 as well.
The Android Pie update will bring a host of features to these phones including a dark mode and new navigation gestures, adaptive RAM, battery and display management, in addition to Google’s Digital Wellbeing functionality.
