HMD Global, on Friday, launched the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant of its mid-tier Nokia 8.1 phone in India. The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant of the Nokia 8.1 will join the existing 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant and will be available for buying from February 6 from Amazon India, Nokia online store as well as physical retail stores. Pre-orders will start from February 1 and it will be available in Blue/Silver and Iron/Steel colour options like the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option.

There’s no other difference between the two variants apart from RAM and storage. Which means, the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant of the Nokia 8.1, will also come with a 6.18-inch 1080p+ display with HDR10 support. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor and runs a stock version of Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. The dual-SIM phone supports 4G LTE and expandable storage via a micro-SD card slot. The phone packs a sizeable 3,500mAh battery and there’s support for 18W fast charging.

The main USP of the Nokia 8.1 is its dual rear camera setup consisting of one 12MP sensor (with OIS) and another 13MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. On the front, the Nokia 8.1 comes with a 20MP camera.

In terms of design, the Nokia 8.1 comes with a dual tone design built out of Series 6000 aluminum with diamond cut edges. The phone comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.

The 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant of the Nokia 8.1, to recall, costs Rs 26,999 in India.

In other news, HMD Global is gearing for MWC 2019 and is slated to make a slew of announcements on February 24. The Nokia 9 PureView with its penta camera setup will of course be the highlight but HMD is also expected to launch a phone called the Nokia 8.1 Plus at MWC which would be its first punch-hole selfie cam offering. This would be in line with devices like the Honor View 20 and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 series.
