The Nokia 8 Sirocco is now receiving the Android 9 Pie update in India, HMD Global announced on Wednesday. Being an Android One device means that the Nokia 8 Sirocco will also receive the Pixel-exclusive App Actions and Digital Wellbeing features of Android 9 Pie, in addition to all the usual stuff.

“With the Android 9 Pie upgrade arriving on the Nokia 8 Sirocco, a total of eight Nokia smartphones are now running the latest Android OS, giving users access to the latest features from Google,” HMD said in a press statement announcing the roll-out.

HMD has been fairly quick and consistent with rolling out software updates across its entire portfolio of Nokia devices. This has, in fact, been a key highlight of all new-age Nokia phones making them tremendous value for money for Android purists.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is the most premium and the most expensive phone in HMD’s portfolio right now. It was launched in India in April last year at a whopping Rs 49,999. It is now available for buying at a lower price of Rs 36,999 and still remains to be the company’s top-tier flagship even though its aging hardware may suggest otherwise.

Regardless, software updates also make a big part of a phone experience and HMD is in the habit of updating its phones in a timely fashion. The Nokia 8 Sirocco shipped with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box and is now upgradable to the latest Android 9 Pie software. “Nokia 8 Sirocco users using Android 9 Pie will enjoy improvements to their smartphone experience based on their daily phone use. This is due to features like predictive system navigation, which adjust and anticipate each user’s personal needs.

The Android Pie update should bring a host of features to the Nokia 8 Sirocco including a dark mode and new navigation gestures, adaptive RAM, battery and display management, in addition to Google’s Digital Wellbeing functionality. The update should start hitting devices any moment now and will be made available on more devices in the next few days.
