Nokia-branded smart TVs are coming to India in partnership with online retail giant Flipkart. We don’t know when. We don’t know their specs either. A new report however drops some clues of what one can expect from Nokia’s foray into the smart television market.

Nokia-branded smart TV rumoured specs

For starters, Nokia’s upcoming smart TV(s) will be based on Android. More precisely, these will run Android 9 Pie software. This means there will be a dedicated Google Play Store inside these smart TVs so users will be able to download and install apps and games on them. This also means these TVs will theoretically be able to run Netflix and Amazon Prime, in addition to YouTube and the likes. That said just because a smart TV runs Android doesn’t mean it would support every OTT streaming app, so we’ll have to wait and watch out on that one. Also, there’s still no clarity if Nokia and Flipkart will be partnering with any content provider.

Moving on, the report suggests a size of 55-inch at least with 4K ultra-HD resolution. Whether or not that would be the only size available at launch is something only time will tell. These Nokia TVs are also said to pack an intelligent dimming technology that would work in real-time to offer “better contrast and deep black levels.”

Lastly, Nokia and Flipkart are said to launch these smart TVs in early December. Since nothing of this is official, we advise you to take this piece of information with a pinch of salt.

What we do know is that these Nokia branded smart TVs will be made in India and feature “superior audio quality powered by JBL’s sound program.” Sadly, that’s all the information we have about these upcoming Nokia-branded smart TVs officially. So, we’ll have to wait and watch out for information.

Also, just so you know, even though these Nokia branded smart TVs will come with, well Nokia branding, they won’t exactly be made or sold by Nokia. But, by Flipkart. This is because Nokia has entered a strategic partnership with the e-retailer which grants Flipkart the right to use the Nokia brand for smart TVs in India. This is “a global first for the Nokia brand in the TV category,” Flipkart recently said in a press release.
