OnePlus may not apparently come out with a foldable smartphone that are now becoming a subtle norm as of late. The smartphone maker has stated that specific use cases for foldable smartphones are yet to surface. At this point in time, OnePlus TVs are the hottest in-thing in India. These are launched only in the country. Pricing of these smart TVs start from Rs 70000.
Now, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has stated that he is looking at deriving value out of the foldable form factor as far as effective usability is concerned. He also added that till the time such value is not demonstrated or does not surface, there would be no foldable OnePlus smartphones. “The technology and the ability to have foldable screens are not very mature yet,” stated Lau during the launch of the OnePlus 7T recently.
This is a clear indication that there may be conventional smartphones from OnePlus as far as form factors are concerned. As of now, Samsung has a foldable smartphone. This is called the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The smartphone recently hit India where it is priced at a staggering Rs 150000. Hence, it seems interesting to note that OnePlus would not be taking the foldable smartphones plunge any time soon. The company, however, has been quick to adapt software trends – at least as far as rolling out newer Android operating system updates are concerned.
