Oppo had announced at MWC 2019 that it will launch a flagship phone with 10X lossless zoom camera tech by June. Now it has confirmed that the said flagship will be launched in April – in China to begin with. The company has also revealed a few key specs of the device, and unsurprisingly, it will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor.

Oppo’s 10X lossless zoom camera tech is an extension of its 5X zoom that the company had announced at MWC 2018. While its 5X zoom tech never made it to the mass market, Oppo’s 10X zoom is seemingly ready for prime-time.

It uses three cameras to achieve the golden 10X zoom figure – a 48MP high-resolution main camera, a 120-degree ultra-wide camera and a periscopic telephoto camera. Together, the trio can cover a focal range of 16mm to 160mm – for a maximum of 10X zoom.

Both the main camera and the telephoto camera will be optically stabilized, with the latter offering up to 73 per cent better stabilization accuracy over Oppo’s 5X zoom tech – that's up to 0.001445 degrees in actual numbers.

Moreover, the telephoto camera features two D-cut optical lenses arranged in a periscope fashion that allows Oppo to keep the thickness in check – Oppo says it has been able to fit everything inside a 6.76mm module, while conventional methods would have entailed in at least 15mm of thickness. Oppo is also packaging the autofocus motors for the top two cameras into one space – saving up to 13 per cent more space.

All of this should allow Oppo to offer high-end camera zoom tech without a camera bump of any sort.

Oppo has further confirmed that its upcoming flagship phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and pack a sizeable 4,065mAh battery.

Although Oppo isn’t revealing the name of this flagship phone yet, speculation is rife that it could be called the Find Z – successor to the crazy slider phone Find X. It seems the Find Z, or whatever Oppo decides to call it, will drop the Find X's slider design in favour of something equally insane (if not more).
