Oppo, a company that claims to be a “leader in the offline channel” announced its online-only debut in India on Wednesday with its new K-series smartphone called the Oppo K1. At Rs 16,990, the Oppo K1 is the most affordable phone in India to pack an in-display fingerprint scanner. Oppo is partnering with Flipkart to sell its K-series smartphones in India.

The Oppo K1 will be available for buying in India from Flipkart from February 12 at a price of Rs 16,990. Oppo is only bringing the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version of the phone to the country for now. The Oppo K1 is also available with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage in China, where it was first launched in October last year.

The K1 continues Oppo’s signature dual tone gradient design and will be available in astral blue and piano black colour variants. It comes with a 6.4-inch 1080p+ display with a teardrop botch. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.  The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor and runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.2. The phone uses a 3,600mAh battery.

The Oppo K1 does not have a conventional fingerprint scanner and instead has an in-display fingerprint scanner like sister brand Vivo’s V11 Pro phone. This means the fingerprint scanner is embedded in the display and you unlock the phone by pressing a dedicated portion on it. The technology can’t work through LCD which is also one reason why the K1 comes with an AMOLED display.

Onto optics, the Oppo K1 sports a dual camera system on the rear consisting of one 16MP camera with f/1.7 aperture and a secondary 2MP camera for depth sensing aka portrait photography. On the front, the K1 comes with a 25MP camera.
