If you thought Oppo’s Reno 10x Zoom was crazy, well, the company is now gearing to launch an even crazier Reno 2 with whopping 20x zoom in India on August 28. While it isn’t clear how the Reno 2 will achieve this, Oppo has confirmed that the phone will come with four rear cameras – the Reno 10x Zoom in contrast came with three rear cameras. The Reno 2 will also come with Oppo’s one-of-its-kind shark-fin pop-up front camera module.

The Reno 10x Zoom uses three cameras to achieve the golden 10x zoom figure – a 48MP high-resolution main camera, a 120-degree ultra-wide camera and a periscopic telephoto camera. Together, the trio can cover a focal range of 16mm to 160mm – for a maximum of 10x zoom. More precisely, the Reno 10x Zoom has a 48MP main camera (with Sony IMX586 sensor), an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 13MP telephoto camera. Both the main camera and the telephoto camera are optically stabilized.

The Reno 10x Zoom takes things a step further by also supporting up to 60x digital zoom – which is claimed to be the first of its kind in the industry.

It would be interesting to see if Oppo has maybe managed to fit two periscopes inside its upcoming phone – or whether we’re looking at something entirely different. But whatever be the case, the Reno 2 will be also based on Oppo’s ‘lossless’ hybrid zoom technology, meaning, even though the zoom won’t be optical, it would mean business for times when you’ll actually need such a setup.

Although it’s not certain, being a Reno 2, it is expected that we’re looking at some sort of successor to the original. Which also means the Reno 2 should pack flagship specs. The Reno 10x Zoom is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor with up to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage under the hood. It packs a sizeable 4,065mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 (20W) fast charging through USB Type-C. Something very similar will be expected from the Reno 2 as well.
