Earlier this month, South Korean electronics giant Samsung unveiled its foldable smartphone design at their developer conference. Google, on the other hand, announced a new category called “foldables” at its recently-held Android Developer Summit. And now that Google is shaping up this futuristic design trend, more smartphone makers are expected to come up with a similar concept in the not-so-distant future.

According to reports, Chinese smartphone brand Oppo might showcase its foldable smartphone at MWC next year. A news website AndroidWorld.nl cited Oppo’s product manager Chuck Wang as suggesting that one can expect to hear more from Oppo on the topic of a foldable phone at MWC. As per the report, here’s what Mr. Wang had to say:

“We know Samsung and Sony are working on a foldable phone, you can also expect more news from Oppo on that topic, maybe at MWC.”

While we don’t know for sure whether Oppo will actually go on to showcase a foldable phone at MWC, this is not the first time we have heard about Oppo’s interest in foldable smartphones. A few months ago, there was a report suggesting that Chinese smartphone makers such as Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi are likely to announce their foldable smartphones in 2019.

Samsung’s foldable device looks a lot like a tablet when not foldable. Once folded, it ends up looking a lot like one thick slab having a shape of a smartphone. It sports 7.3 inches full tablet-sized display that can be converted (or folded) into a smartphone. More details are awaited.

In a related news, Oppo R17 Pro with Super VOOC support is launching in India on December 4. As for key attractions, it features a triple camera unit on the rear and in-display fingerprint reader. It also flaunts gradient design in addition to a 6.4-inch 1080p AMOLED screen.
