Realme U1 gets Rs 1,000 price cut, now available via offline sales channels

Oppo offshoot brand Realme has announced a Rs 1,000 price cut on its popular Realme U1 phone in India. The Realme U1 which was launched in India starting at Rs 11,999 for the base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, going all the way to Rs 14,499 for the top-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage will now be available at a reduced price of Rs 10,999 and Rs 13,499 respectively from Amazon India and Realme online store.

At the same time, Realme has also announced that that Realme U1 will now be available via offline sales channels as well, beginning with “2,500 stores in 30 cities eventually reaching 100 cities by March 2019.” It isn’t clear if the price cut announced for online sales applies for offline sales channels as well. Realme is offering benefits worth Rs 5,750, up to 4.2TB of Jio 4G data, when clubbed with Rs 198 and Rs 299 prepaid plans, to mark the phone’s offline debut. 

“Considering the rapidly growing customer demand towards Realme U1 we are making the device available at our offline stores. Initially the device was available for sale exclusively in Amazon.in and saw a phenomenal response. The initiative is to fulfil our commitment to deliver best consumer experience to our customers.” Madhav Sheth, who is chief executive officer, Realme India said while making the announcement. 

The Realme U1 is a lower mid-range phone that comes with a 6.3-inch 720p+ display witch a teardrop notch, an octa-core MediaTek Helio P70 processor with up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB storage. On the optics front, the Realme U1 comes with a dual rear camera system consisting of one 13MP sensor and another 2MP sensor for depth sensing. On the front, it comes with a 25MP camera. 

The dual-SIM Realme U1 runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColourOS and is fueled by a sizeable 3,500mAh battery. 

In other news, Realme announced an updated version of its entry-level Realme C1 phone in India recently. The Realme C1 2019 has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 7,499 for the base 2GB RAM, 32GB storage variant, going all the way to Rs 8,499 for the top-end variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The Realme C1 2019 will be available for buying in India from online retail website Flipkart from February 5.
