Oppo spin-off brand Realme will launch the Realme 3 and Realme 3 Pro successor phones, the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro, in India on August 20. The company is now sending out invites to the media for a launch event scheduled for August 20 in the National Capital where it will launch its new Realme 5 series phones. It would be interesting to see if Realme launches the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro together in one go, or separately – the Realme 3 and Realme 3 Pro were launched a month apart.

Realme has already confirmed that both the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro will come with four rear cameras, although specific details about the kind of sensors involved are unknown at this point of time. Realme is also working on a quad camera phone with a 64MP main sensor, but it’s highly unlikely that we would see it in a Realme 5 series phone. The 64MP sensor may be reserved for Realme’s more premium Realme X successor.

Realme recently announced that it would be jumping straight to quad cameras in all its upcoming phones. Realme currently has three product line-ups – Realme, Realme Pro and Realme X. As for their launch windows, Realme has also announced that it would launch all these phones by October this year. Clearly, Realme is kicking off the proceedings with the Realme 3 and Realme 3 Pro successor phones.

Realme is touting a number of benefits of the quad camera setup that it is working on – ultra resolution, super wide angle, ultra-macro, and telephoto. Going by the price segment that Realme likes to operate in, we just might be looking at India’s most affordable quad camera phones. It would also be interesting to see how many of its touted features make it to its entry-level and lower mid-tier phones, aka the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro.

For some perspective, the Realme 3 Pro comes with a dual rear camera system on the rear consisting of a 16MP (Sony IMX 519) sensor with f/1.7 aperture and another 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. The Realme 3 also has a dual rear camera system but with a watered-down 13MP f/1.8 sensor and another 2MP sensor for depth sensing.
