Samsung Galaxy A2 Core Android Go edition phone now available via offline channels: Price, specs and everything to know

Samsung is yet to make its entry-level Galaxy A2 Core Android Go edition phone official in India, but the phone in question is already available for buying from select offline sellers. Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom, who has a reputation of breaking cover for many unannounced smartphones, is now selling the Samsung Galaxy A2 Core in India at a price of Rs 5,290.  

Being an Android Go phone means, the Galaxy A2 Core doesn’t dazzle from a hardware perspective – the Galaxy A2 Core is an entry-level phone designed for first-time smartphone users who may be looking to make a switch from a feature phone. Its main USP being its Android Go software which is essentially a trimmed down version of the stock Android software you find in Google’s own Pixel phones. Sort of like the Xiaomi Redmi Go.  

Unlike the Redmi Go, however, the Samsung Galaxy A2 Core runs the latest Android 9 Pie Go edition software – the Redmi Go is based on Android Oreo Go edition out of-the-box. But then the Redmi Go is also more affordable – it is available for Rs 4,499 – so that’s that. 

Speaking of specs, the Samsung Galaxy A2 Core comes with a 5-inch qHD TFT display with a 540x960 pixel resolution and conventional 16:9 aspect ratio – meaning thick bezels. The Android Go phone is powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 7870 processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The Galaxy A2 Core further sports a 5MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, and packs a 2,600mAh battery with micro-USB charging.   

The Galaxy A2 Core has an all-plastic body with no fingerprint scanner – much like any other Android Go phone in the market right now, including the Redmi Go. 

The Redmi Go, in contrast, comes with slightly better specs. It comes with a 5-inch display with 720p resolution and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is expandable using a dedicated micro-SD card slot. The dual-SIM phone supports 4G LTE connectivity and pack a 3,000mAh battery. On the camera front, the Redmi Go comes with an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.
