Samsung launched its new Galaxy A-series phone, the Galaxy A70, in India on Wednesday. The main highlights of the Galaxy A70 are its unusually tall 20:9 Infinity-U display and 25W fast charging - both of which are a first for any Samsung phone, let alone any Samsung Galaxy A-series phone. The Galaxy A70 will sell for Rs 28,990 and will be available in black, blue and white colour options from May 1.

The design scheme of the Galaxy A70 is familiar if you've seen any of the recent Galaxy A phones, primarily the Galaxy A50 - the Galaxy A70 seems to be a gradual step up in the series. Which means that Samsung is using its 3D ‘glasstic’ design in the Galaxy A70 - which essentially means that the phone is made of plastic with glossy finish.

Like the Galaxy A50, the Galaxy A70 also ditches a conventional fingerprint scanner in favor of an optical in-display reader.

Speaking of specs, the Galaxy A70 comes with a 6.7-inch 1080p+ Super AMOLED display - its 20:9 aspect ratio is a first for any Samsung phone. There’s also Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the front. The Galaxy A70 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage which is also expandable. The dual SIM phone runs Android 9 Pie-based One UI - same software that's inside Samsung's flagship Galaxy S10 phones. The Galaxy A70 further packs a sizeable 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging through USB Type-C. The Galaxy A70 is also the first Galaxy A phone to fully support Samsung Pay.

On to the cameras, the Galaxy A70 comes with three rear cameras consisting of one 32MP sensor (Samsung GD1 sensor for effective 8MP photos) with f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP sensor for depth sensing aka portrait photography. On the front, the Galaxy A70 comes with a 32MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.

“At Samsung, it’s our endeavour to deliver new experiences to our consumers. We are witnessing a change from an era of static to an era of live and Galaxy A70 is built for this era of live which allows them to capture experiences, connect and share it with the world in real time. With its best in class display, revolutionary Samsung Pay, path breaking triple rear camera and top-notch processor, the newly launched Galaxy A70 is all about experience. I am sure our consumers will be delighted with this ultimate powerhouse,” Ranjivjit Singh, who is senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Samsung India said while announcing the Galaxy A70.
