Samsung has launched the new and hopefully improved Galaxy Fold in India. The Galaxy Fold, for all intents and purposes, is a luxury device - “a meticulously crafted luxury smartphone that unveils a new era of smartphone design,” according to Samsung. No wonder it costs a bomb. Samsung will sell a limited number of Galaxy Fold units in India – Samsung isn’t revealing a number though – from October 20 at a price of a whopping Rs 1,64,999. Samsung says it is open to bringing in more units, should there be greater demand.

Those looking to get the Samsung Galaxy Fold in India can pre-order the device from October 4 online on Samsung’s official online store, Samsung Shop, and offline in 35 cities across select 315 outlets, including the iconic Samsung Opera House in Bengaluru. Those who pre-order the Galaxy Fold on Samsung India’s online store and Samsung Shop will be eligible to get their device delivered to them through a concierge, Samsung has announced.

Galaxy Fold buyers will also be eligible for the Galaxy Fold Premier Service, which will offer, in addition to 24x7 expert customer care, a one-year Infinity Flex Display Protection – this will include accidental damage coverage with one-time protection, genuine parts, expert repair service and Galaxy Fold’s display, and discounted repair for Rs 10,500.

Samsung Galaxy Fold specs and features

Because that on-of-its-kind foldable screen is what you’ll be paying for should you be investing in the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

The Galaxy Fold is India’s first foldable smartphone. The Galaxy Fold gives users access to two categories of devices - a 7.3-inch primary tablet kind and a smaller 4.6-inch phone form factor – all in one device. Like a book, the Galaxy Fold has a spine or hinge in the middle, only there’s no partition on the inside since Samsung’s signature curved OLED or Infinity Flex simply passes through – hence the name, Galaxy Fold. There’s a secondary cover display on the other (outer) side, that allows users to continue using the device as a makeshift smartphone for when it is folded.

Key hardware specs of the Galaxy Fold include: a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, and a total of six cameras. The Galaxy Fold further packs two batteries which entail in a total battery capacity of 4,380mAh. The software inside is Android 9 Pie-based One UI, with exclusive features like App Continuity that allows users to run as many as three individual apps simultaneously on it when in tablet mode.
